ABSTRACT

Creating a comprehensive didactic curriculum for breast imaging fellows can be a demanding undertaking, especially considering that most breast practices are understaffed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and amid rising clinical volumes. This leaves little time for didactic education. In this article, we present our approach to creating a collaborative weekly multidisciplinary didactic lecture series involving multiple institutions, using the Society of Breast Imaging's suggested fellowship curriculum as the foundation. We discuss the advantages for both trainees and faculty, including fostering camaraderie, networking, and engagement among breast imaging fellows. Faculty have the opportunity for professional development by leveraging their clinical expertise through selecting didactic topics in their niche. This creates a pathway for speaking faculty to be recognized as regional and national experts.

ABSTRACT

A proper ventilation strategy in an isolation ward could promote better indoor air quality for the occupants. This could also reduce the risk of immunocompromised patients contracting healthcare-associated infections (HAI) or airborne diseases such as COVID-19, tuberculosis, and measles among others. This study aims to propose and examine appropriate ventilation strategies in a single-patient isolation ward that can reduce particle settlement in patients. A simplified CFD model of the isolation ward was developed and well-validated against established data. An RNG k-ε model and discrete phase model (DPM) were used to simulate airflow and particle transportation. The study examined the airflow and particle dispersion under a baseline case and four proposed ventilation strategies. Results showed that the baseline case study, which used the ceiling-mounted air curtain was insufficient to prevent the particles from dispersing into the vicinity of the patient. Likewise, the dilution effect under the baseline case and case 4 (wall-mounted air supply diffuser) were relatively weak due to the low air change rate (ACH) of 4/hr and 9/hr respectively. The ventilation strategy in case 4 has a negligible effect on reducing the particles (14%) settling on the patient although the ACH in case 4 was 2-times the baseline case. The present finding ascertains that utilising the combination of ceiling-mounted air diffuser and air curtain jet (case 3) results in zero particle settlement on both patient's and the patient's bed. It also reduced 57% of particles in the vicinity of the medical staff's breathing zone compared to the baseline case. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

ABSTRACT

The microbial quality of cutting boards used in the home kitchen indicates hygiene conditions and a potential source of public health risk. This study aimed to assess the hygiene knowledge, attitudes and practices on cutting boards among food handlers at home during the Covid19 pandemic in Selangor. One hundred home food handlers participated in the online survey using a validated self-administered questionnaire. Overall, findings indicate sufficient hygiene knowledge, attitudes and practices on cutting boards. These findings emphasize the need for educating home food handlers on food hygiene to improve their knowledge, behaviour and practices.

ABSTRACT

Telemedicine offers consultations between patients and doctors in real-time. Thus, patients with limited access can still get health services. This study aims to analyze the potential of telemedicine implementation in the frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped areas in Indonesia (3T region) and develop strategies to increase the potency. This qualitative descriptive study using secondary sources collected from the literature study. The analysis is based on the telemedicine pillars and SWOT. The potency of telemedicine implementation in the 3T region is supported by most health facilities already connected to the internet, the high enthusiasm of government and the private sector to create healthcare applications and regulations. However, there are several issues in developing telemedicine: low fixed broadband penetration, uneven electricity sources, and low internet speed. Some of the strategies can be done to maximize the potential implementation are creating applications that can be run with a slow internet connection, using alternative electricity sources, setting up mobile broadband, encouraging a commitment of health data protection and specific law to prevent unauthorized and illegal service providers, health professional training in using the telemedicine application, and cooperating with community leaders in boosting public acceptance of telemedicine. © 2021 IEEE
